I'm doing some technical troubleshooting for a vBulletin site that my friends recently took over that had a significant update from an old legacy version to version 5 (not sure specific version, as I'm having trouble pulling up the admin console, but the update occurred less than two weeks ago). I'm in software development by trade, with some WordPress and other CMS experience, but no previous experience with vBulletin.
The performance is extremely spotty: the server logs show frequent database timeout errors, but also another peculiar error:
mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Notice: unserialize(): Error at offset 0 of 4 bytes in phar:///home/notredam/public_html/forums/core/vb/vb.phar/library/user.php on line 531
Does anyone have any insight into this error? Could it be related to the database timeouts? (The site is running PHP 7.2.34)
I pulled up the PHP and it apparently has to do with creating a list of usernames. The site has a large, messy data set with just over 10000 entries in the "user" table.
Any and all insight appreciated.
