I guess before I purchase, I'm looking for something of a "rundown" for what I can expect for a process of getting my old vb site onto the latest version (self hosted).
Due to cpanel forcing a mysql upgrade (some new version of theirs was going to require it), I recently needed to upgrade my mysql, which they recommended MariaDB 10.3, so that's what I went with. After doing this, my old vb site started throwing up errors when you logged in. It is a completely white page, with the error, and my concern is, that the error contains my old vb version number. So now that my site is announcing to the world that I have an old version, I thought it best to upgrade.
I mention this whole database issue, because even when I try to log into my admin control panel for my vb site, even then it throws up this error. So while I have ftp access to the site, I'm unable to access the admincp of the current, old VB version.
I'm concerned if this problem needs to be fixed, in order to upgrade? Is what my hope is, is that upgrading vb itself will resolve the issue. The specific error mentions "mysql error: Data too long for column 'useragent' at row 1".
So summary:
1. What type of upgrade process can I expect from 3.0.7 to the current version?
2. Is it possible to upgrade without access to my current vb admincp?
3. There shouldn't be any incompatibility with the latest version of VB and MariaDB 10.3, correct?
Thanks for any details you can provide.
